EtG Head Hair Testing

Who should choose EtG head hair testing?

EtG head hair testing is usually performed as the result of a legal proceeding. In child custody and divorce cases where child custody is contested because of a person's alleged alcohol use, EtG head hair testing has been used.

Since head hair testing can potentially provide a longer detection window, individuals considering this type of testing should understand that a positive result may not necessarily indicate recent alcohol usage.

How long can EtG be detected with a hair test?

There is no easy answer. A head hair sample can be tested for EtG as long as it is a viable sample. However, the older the hair is, that is, the part of the hair that is furthest from the scalp, the less likely EtG will be detected.

How is EtG head hair testing performed?

Hair testing is painless, and, in most cases, others won't notice that you performed a hair test.

Using standard hair cutting scissors, the collector will take multiple small samples from different parts of the donor's head. A sample that is at least a half an inch in length and approximately the thickness of a standard pencil is needed for testing.

After the sample is collected, it is placed in an envelope, sealed, and shipped to the laboratory for testing.
