Why Random Testing?

Your employees are the single greatest asset your business has, they are also one of the largest expenses. To make sure you get the most productivity from your employees, you might offer training, special benefits for employees that meet key performance indicators, and pay raises throughout an employee's tenure. All of these are great ways to improve employee morale, retention, and productivity. But one, often overlooked, step that your business can take to ensure productivity is to implement a random drug and alcohol testing program.

Drug and alcohol abuse is extremely common in the United States. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) showed that in 2022 approximately 40% of individuals who reported using illicit drugs were employed. Studies from around the world have shown that employees who use illicit drugs or abuse alcohol are more likely to skip work at least twice per month and when at work they are about half as productive as employees who do not use illicit drugs or abuse alcohol.

While many businesses will perform pre-employment tests on new hires, the ones that also include random testing are more likely to catch employees who have a substance use disorder. By providing assistance to employees with substance use disorders, or by simply removing them from your workforce, you will improve productivity, provide a safer work environment, and help contribute to a healthier and happier workplace.

Give us a call, we would love to have the opportunity to help you create a safer, happier, and healthier workplace.

How We Can Help

Why Asure Test?

Since 1989, Asure Test has been helping businesses of all sizes and in all industries implement drug and alcohol testing programs and policies that create a safer workplace.

When you join our consortium, we can review your current drug and alcohol testing policies and make recommendations that might help improve them. Every client of ours enjoys paperless electronic test ordering and tracking1, access to our nationwide clinic network, access to our secure web portal where you can manage your account 24/7, computer generated random selections of employees, assistance with unemployment claims that involve positive drug screens, and referrals to Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) and recovery services for your employees who need help.

Regardless of if your business is large or small, chances are that you have, or will eventually have, an employee with a substance use disorder. Not all users of illicit drugs and alcohol can be easily spotted. Randomly testing your workforce allows you to know for sure and then provide recovery resources to those employees if they want them.

Customized Random Testing

We know that every business is unique, with different goals and priorities when it comes to random drug and alcohol testing. That's why we pride ourselves in providing a fully customizable random testing program service. We offer simple turn-key setups for businesses that are seeking a random testing program, but don't want to worry about every detail, and we also offer programs where you can decide every aspect of how your program will work.

Setting up a random testing program can seem complicated if you have never had one before. There are many questions to answer, and decisions to be made, but we can help you answer those questions and guide you to make the decisions that are best for your situation.

Once your program is up and is running, the work involved to keep it running smoothly is rather minimal. Let us know when employees join or leave your company, and we will let you know who to test.

Because businesses change over time, your random program should be flexible. You should be able to make changes to how it works whenever you need to without incurring additional costs to make those changes. We give you full control to make any changes you like, whenever you like, and there's never a fee to make those changes.

Addiction Treatment and Substance Abuse Counseling Resources

Part of setting up a testing program involves deciding how to handle situations where an employee admits to drug or alcohol abuse or has a positive test.

Some states have laws that dictate how a business should handle these situations, but no law mandates that the employee be terminated or retained except in very specific and limited situations. Most likely, this is a decision that you will need to make.

Regardless of if you decide to have a zero tolerance drug testing policy, or you have a policy that may allow an employee to retain employment, we strongly recommend that all of our clients provide a list of local addiction treatment and counseling resources to all employees when they are hired, and in situations where they admit to use, or have a positive test. We can help provide those resources to you, free of charge.

Not every employee will be open to receiving help, but for some, a simple list of resources could help save their life.

Online Random Program Management

All of our clients have access to our secure web portal. Those clients with random testing programs will also be able to access additional features in the web portal that allow them to manage their random program and even run reports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our web portal allows you to:

  • View and update your current list of employees in the random testing program
  • View, download, and print current and past random selection lists
  • Run reports
  • Review basic account information for accuracy

We are constantly adding new features to the web portal, and regularly take suggestions on how we can make the web portal more useful.

Access to the web portal is free for all of our clients that wish to use it. But if you prefer to not use the web portal, that's okay, we can still mail you everything you need to make sure your random program stays running smoothly.

Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy Writing

Implementing a random drug and alcohol testing program is important, but it's only part of the puzzle.

Most states require that you disclose to your employees what your drug and alcohol testing policy is and provide them with a physical copy of the policy or at least make it available on request. If the policy changes, there may also be laws you need to follow to notify your employees of the change and when that change is allowed to occur.

Operating without a written policy could be problematic in situations where an employee tests positive or refuses to take a random test and decides to take legal action against your business.

If you need a workplace policy, or you have one that you aren't sure is sufficient, we offer a drug and alcohol-free workplace policy writing service. If you had drug and alcohol testing services with a different provider in the past, we can help you update your existing policy so that it's accurate with the services we are providing to you. We can also let you know what your state requires as far as notifying your employees about the policy changes and make sure that those changes take effect at the right time.

The drug and alcohol-free workplace policy writing service isn't included in your membership, it's provided for an additional fee for those who need it. Give us a call and we can discuss any policy questions you may have.

10 Reasons Why Our Customers Love Us

1. Very competitive pricing

Our testing fees include everything, so you don't have to worry about paying more for a test for any reason. If you find a different service provider that offers the same service for less, we would love to know!

2. Rapid turnaround of test results

Most drug test results are reported in 24-48 hours.

3. Convenient collection sites

Our collection site network is massive! We have a network of over 10,000 collection sites in the United States and Canada that are available to our customers. If there's a problem at any of our collection sites, we will take care of it, so you don't have to.

On-site collections are also available for companies who prefer to have their collections done at their workplace or a job location.

4. Guaranteed collection accuracy

You will never be charged for improperly collected drug screen specimens rejected by the laboratory or for corrections made to tests due to collection site errors.

We take a personal interest in our clients by reviewing each test result we receive for accuracy. Occasionally collection sites make mistakes which can result in delayed or incorrectly reported test results. With many other service providers, when a test is performed, they file the result and associated paperwork in the client's file and move on, regardless of if the result is correct or not. These errors are what we look for and is something we strive to prevent. If it does occur though, we do everything we can to correct them without any charge to you.

5. No hidden costs

We don't nickel and dime our clients with fees that other service providers like to charge.

Everything needed to perform a drug or alcohol screen, including the kits, chain-of-custody forms, shipping containers, and postage, are sent to you or your clinic free of charge. If you prefer electronic test orders, those are free as well. You are billed only for drug tests you perform, and only those that are free of uncorrectable errors.

Changes to your participant list and to your account is free to do. We don't charge you to add, remove, or update an employee on your random participant list.

Our membership fee is the same, regardless of how large or small your company is. Why should you be punished for your business growing or shrinking?

6. 24/7 Online access to your account

Using a computer or mobile device you can manage your account online 24 hours a day wherever you are.

You can add as many users to the web portal as you like, all for free.

7. Electronic ordering

With electronic ordering, you can create, modify, and track testing orders for your employees 24 hours a day.

Don't like using electronic ordering, or you just prefer to use paper chain of custody forms, that's okay too! You can order testing any way you like.

8. Experience

With years of experience our knowledge of drug and alcohol testing is vast. We constantly update, verify, and review our procedures to make sure we are providing the best, most accurate service possible.

Our staff has attended drug testing seminars and conferences all over the United States. We are members of SAPAA (Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association) and have been for years.

9. Flexible random programs

Want to draw random selections every month, every quarter, twice a year, or just once a year? You can. Do you want to test different locations at different rates? You can do that too.

We have multiple ways for you to setup your random testing program so that it meets your company's goals.

10. Guaranteed random selections

We utilize a computer program written in-house that is specifically designed to generate random selections. We monitor access to this software very closely to be sure that random selections are not tampered with and remain accurate.

1. Not all locations are able to accept electronic orders. In those cases, paper testing forms will still be required for testing.

No federal or state agency, including any US DOT agency, certifies or approves testing programs provided by any C/TPA. Asure Test follows all regulations when administering services.
